OKLAHOMA RAIL NEWS
News and developments on intercity passenger rail and transit in Oklahoma.
Entry for September 15, 2008

Finally!  Highway signs for trains coming.

Friday, September 19th, 2008 at the Norman Santa Fe Amtrak Depot the Oklahoma Department of Transportation will reveal new "trail blazer" highway signs to assist in directing rail patrons to the location of Oklahoma Amtrak stops.

Such signs have long marked station locations in Missouri, Texas, and more recently Kansas.

The event will coincide with the arrival of southbound train 821 with the brief main program commencing at 9:00 a.m.

Oklahoma Passenger Rail Association leadership has had this near the top of the priority list for the past eight years during our meetings with state transportation officials.

It has been reported that Oklahoma City and Norman will accept the signs from ODOT and install them with city crews while ODOT will handle installation on the state highway system in Pauls Valley, Purcell, and Ardmore.

ODOT will later install signs on the interstate routes.

A special thanks to Senator John Sparks for his support in getting this done.

Please attend this gathering to show support for the service and this latest enhancement as there will be media and elected officials present.

Of Course this was the Northern Flyer Alliance work in initially contacting Senator Sparks.

As I understand it was Bob Kemper and Nelson Dent who originally contacted Senator Sparks. Senator Sparks thanked the Northern Flyer Alliance for alerting him to the situation. Why is Oklahoma Passenger Rail taking credit for this? Sour grapes?

You need to correct this post and stop taking credit for other people hard work. This has been going on for sometime now with this website. Bob Kemper worked long and hard to get this into effect, not your group. I don't recall your organization working on this project nor joining the effort in expansion until late in the game. Please be honest in your reportings and join the effort of expanding the train.
